first step to leadership is servanthood. The surest mark=

a Christian is not faith, or even love, but joy. Let our hearts

powerful . . . Therefore, on God alone will I rely for my keeping. I will

From
Pastor Randy
Origen was a famous 3rd century theologian. When he = was 17, an outbreak of persecution led to his father’s arrest. Origen wanted to follow his father into prison and be martyred along with him. H= is mother pleaded with him not to go, but Origen was determined to follow his father’s footsteps. A= s a last ditch effort, Origen's mother hid his clothes. Despite his protests = she would not give him his clothes, thus he couldn't leave the house and volunteer to be martyred.
Origen was brave enough to be martyred, but not brave enough to leave his house naked. I suspect that is the way it is for many= of us. We would fight and die if necessary to protect our right to meet toge= ther and worship, but sharing our faith with a friend leaves us feeling exposed and uncomfortable. It is sad when we are willing to give up our lives for= a cause but are unwilling to risk some embarrassment. Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God for salvation.” You overcome the shame when you understand the power.= p> I met with a young man last week that had recently given his life to
Christ. He had been involved in drugs and gangs and all the effects that =
coincide
with that lifestyle. Now there is an obvious change. It brought great joy=
to
my heart to talk about his new life. It is my hope that we will have faith in the power o= f the gospel to change people’s lives and share the gospel without fear, making GBC a place of… Growing Discipleshi=

How You Should Worship by Dan Shilling
Let me tell you how you should worship so in the fut= ure you will know. Worship with your eyes closed, heads bowed, eyes open, fac= es upward, on your knees, on your face, hands clasped, reverently standing, hands raised to God. These positions match the way God created us. Someti= mes you should worship in silence, sometimes with exuberance, with introspect= ion, open joyfulness, with a shout, weeping, laughter, dancing, listening, sin= ging softly, singing joyfully, reading scripture, in prayer. These actions mat= ch the different personalities God gave each of us. But worship with clean h= ands and a repentant, pure heart. Worship is not motivation, entertainment, personal t= aste, musical style, comfort zones, unchanging, ever changing, being fed or mee= ting with the congregation in the sanctuary. Worship is, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Restore me to the= joy of Your salvation and give me a willing heart.” How will you worship the next time?
God’s Grace by
Michael Blakeney
We can do a lot of things such as play baseball or t= ake out the trash. My favorite things to do are reel in a big fish and holler at a hockey game. We can do all kinds of nice things for peo= ple too. Everyone has the ability to do things that are helpful and productive. The Bible teaches no one can love God or know who He is= on our own. It is only by the grace of God that we can love God and lo= ve others. St. Augustine (not the grass) said, “Nothing whatever pertaining to godliness and real holiness can be accomplished without grace.” We have to realize that God is what enables us to lov= e, hope, and live life to its fullest. What is even greater is the magnitude of His grace. God provides His grace when we are in our darkest times and on the mountain top. Grace fits into the picture = of personal revival because it reminds us of our complete dependence on God = for everything that is good in our lives. Grace reminds us that it is G= od working in our lives to bring us closer to Him. God’s grace s= aves us, sustains us, and revives us. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the = throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” Hebrews 4:16.
